What is JournTech?
JournTech is an academic publishing platform built for university presses, journal editors and libraries in Turkey. It runs book and journal publishing in one place, from submission to the open-access catalogue.
Main parts
The whole journey of a publication is recorded in JournTech. The author submits, the editor picks reviewers, the publishing board decides, the production team prepares the work and the publication goes into the open-access catalogue. These are the main parts of the platform.
- Submission and peer review
- Authors submit online, with ethics and copyright declarations as part of the submission. Review is double-anonymous. Invitations, reminders and decision rounds run in the system.
- Production
- Typesetting, cover and imprint steps are tracked on the publishing coordinator's task list.
- ISBN and legal deposit
- An ISBN request goes to the publishing board for approval. The authorised person applies with their own e-Devlet login. A browser extension that fills in the Ministry's form from the approved request is in pilot. After printing, the 15-day legal deposit deadline and the bandrol are tracked.
- Journals
- A journal can be run in JournTech, or it can stay on DergiPark and be synced to the institution's site. The TR Dizin readiness checklist and the ODİS-ready export are part of this too.
- Open-access catalogue
- Books, articles and proceedings papers are published with Turkish and English pages, their licences and citation formats.
- Visibility
- DOIs are registered with Crossref together with reference lists. Google Scholar tags, OAI-PMH records and the sitemap are produced automatically. Authors' ORCID iDs and institutions' ROR IDs are added to the records.
- Institutional archive
- Theses in the institution's open repository are imported over OAI-PMH and synced every day. The original record stays in the repository.
- Administration and trust
- There are eleven built-in roles and fine-grained permissions. Every important action is written to an audit log. Staff can sign in with their institutional account, and two-step verification can be required for privileged roles. Privacy notices and erasure requests are built in.
The units it serves
JournTech gives every unit that takes part in publishing its own screens. Presses and publishing committees run the book process in it. Journal editors follow peer review and indexing readiness. Libraries manage the catalogue and harvesting. IT departments manage users, permissions and the installation.
Use and installation
JournTech runs in the browser; nothing is installed on users' computers. The public site and the admin panel work in Turkish and English.
Each institution gets its own installation with its domain, logo and colours. Hosting and backup locations are set in the contract with the institution.
Standards and services it supports
JournTech publishes in a form that indexes, search engines and harvesters can read. It works with the following standards and services.
- Crossref
- DOIs are registered for articles, issues, books, chapters and proceedings papers. Articles are sent with their reference lists.
- Google Scholar
- Every publication page carries the citation_* tags and the PDF link that Google Scholar reads.
- OAI-PMH
- Records are offered to harvesters as oai_dc. Theses and journals on DergiPark are imported over OAI-PMH too.
- ORCID and ROR
- Authors are identified by ORCID iDs and institutions by ROR IDs. Users can sign in with ORCID.
- Schema.org and sitemaps
- Pages carry structured data, canonical links and a sitemap for search engines.
- TR Dizin and ODİS
- Journals get a criterion-by-criterion readiness checklist and an export that prepares the files to upload to ODİS.
- OpenID Connect
- If the institution's identity provider supports it, staff sign in with their institutional account.
- WCAG 2.2 AA
- The interface is designed to this accessibility level and is checked automatically on every change.
- Creative Commons
- Open-access publications are published with their licences.
